Produced and recorded at Power Play Studios in New York City, Follow The Leader featured musical contributions from Rakim’s brother Stevie Blass Griffin, who played a variety of instruments on the record. Only a year later, under a new contract with MCA Records, Eric B & Rakim released Follow The Leader, on 26 July 1988. ![]() Still, Rakim’s lyricism drew praise, and the bar was set high for the duo’s sophomore effort. And while the album attracted legions of fans, mainstream critics offered a mostly lukewarm response. It yielded five radio singles, including the album’s titular track and ‘Eric B Is President’, but stalled at №58 on the Billboard 200. Paid In Full was a remarkable introduction to a duo who would prove to be among the most formidable in hip-hop. ![]()
